The first night of Jobs for Life went well, according to the email Phil Stogner sent me. He thanked us heartily for our food. He's got more volunteers this session, so he wants us to be the "dessert experts." All we'll need to provide are desserts because he has other volunteers providing other supper-like food. So for next Thursday, October 6, Tiffany is scheduled to provide desserts for the training. As a reminder, the food needs to be at Two Rivers by 6:45 pm.

For our normal community group on October 5, we'll be meeting at the Morgans' house (and for all of October). We're at 1410 Gemstone Blvd; if you need directions, please call Seth or me. I'm planning to make chicken and zucchini hot salad. It sounds weird, but it's delicious. Seth thinks so, too, as I've tried it out on him before. Feel free to bring other salads, bread, fruit, other sides, dessert, and drinks. I have plenty of plastic and paper products for this week. See you at 6!

Since we've decided to support the next session of Jobs for Life, I wanted to get a schedule created for those weeks that snacks will be needed. As a reminder, it's best to have two folks making snacks per week, so we can provide a sweet (like cookies or brownies) and a savory (like li'l sandwiches or pigs-in-blankets). The attendees are hearty eaters, so whatever we take will be scarfed down I assure you.

The training sessions start at 7 pm, so our snacks need to be at Two Rivers Center 1082 E. Montague North Charleston, SC 29405 by about 6:45. I think it'll work best if everyone comments with the weeks that they're able to provide snacks. Then I can tally and keep track of who's on for which week, reminding everyone on the Wednesday prior.

There are 20 slots needing filled, and we have four couples and three singles in our group currently. So if everyone signs up for 3 or 4 spots, then we should have it covered. Here are the dates when snacks are needed:

Side note: Alex and I went last Thursday to Jobs for Life at Two Rivers Pres, and I was most impressed by this ministry. The attendees seemed eager to learn, and Phil Stogner (the pastor) did a great job. And the guys LOVED the food! I thought I was taking more cookies than necessary, but they ate them all! I think the delicious food helped facilitate a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. It also gave me a reason to strike up a conversation with the men. I'm planning to take more food this coming week (pizza bagels), and JaiLynne said she'd make something too. I can pick it up from you, JaiLynne, on my way there Thursday night. We can talk more about it Wednesday night, but I was so excited about this ministry when I left there last week!

The Whites will be hosting this month. This Wednesday is taco night! We will provide the ground beef, chicken and cheese. Others can bring taco shells (hard and/or soft) toppings (sour cream, lettuce, salsa), sides, dessert, paper products (plates/forks/cups), and drinks.

Directions:
Take North Rhett Exit from 526 towards Mt. Pleasant. Take a left on North rhett and go about 3 miles. Turn left into Tanner Plantation. Stay straight until you dead end. Take a right onto Foster's Creek. Turn left into Eagle Bluff (2nd neighborhood on the left), which is Song Sparrow Way. Our house is 1330 Song Sparrow Way.

Hello Everyone. This week I'm making a Med. chicken recipe with kalamata olives and artichokes. For sides we will definitely need rice. After that, we can all be creative. We are still good on paper products. I'm not sure how many we will have this week, but the stragglers are having to scrounge to eat :) I'll make a lot of this dish.

Thank you all so much for the amazing meals this past week! It was a HUGE blessing to not coem up with meals for the weak and do all of the grocery shopping after bringing Charleigh home. We really appreciated the food and visitors and don't know how we would have made it through the week without y'all!

This week we are going to have brunch for dinner at the Johnson's. I am going to make curried eggs (similar to deviled eggs, baked with a coconut curry sauce). Frogmore Stew Feast!

To celebrate South Carolina (good ole Frogmore, SC) and the end of summer... we are going to have Frogmore stew this week! This is one of my favorite meals... Shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes boiled in a pot and thrown on the table... no plates needed. Considering this is a bit different we will need: Drinks, and dessert. We are hosting you lovely people again this week. I'm going to make a Thai chicken dish with broccoli. It is not too too spicy but it is good with some sort of plain rice. I don't need any paper products except a bunch of forks. We also would need drinks and dessert. Maybe some salad, asian noodles to garnish the chicken, fruit or another easy side dish. Also having a babysitter is questionable at this point...I'm still asking around but so far no one is free. Have we done a praise singing thing recently? I don't know if you all would be down for that (Seth think banjo solo) but that might be something fun that the kids could sort of join in on. You know that you are excited about this one! In honor of the American appropriated Mexican holiday, i thought we would have American Mexican food. I am going to fix chicken for the nachos, queso w/ sausage, and queso sans meat. I also have two bags of tortilla chips (more might be needed depending on how many people we will have), jalepenos (jarred not fresh), a 2L of rootbeer, cups, napkins, and plastic ware. Suggested items to bring include, but are not limited to: shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, salsa, pico de gallo, gaucomole, sour cream, pork or beef, refried beans, rice, churros, festive drinks, plates, ice, treats for the dogs, and whatever else you can come up with.

howdy gang. don't forget that our community group will be serving at the Seacoast Dream Center this Wednesday night.
the plan is to meet at the Koch's house at 6pm, drop off the kids with Tiffany and babysitter, and then carpool down to the church. the nights events will include hangout time, dinner with neighborhood kids, and some games.
parents....if your baby needs to be fed while you guys are away....no problem. just pack whatever is needed and i'll make sure their tummies are full. :-)
